Fred First gives back on his birthday!

First Group’s  favourite, larger-than-life blue bird of fun, Fred First, recently celebrated his fourth birthday and the team at Margate Sands decided to share it with the underprivileged children of Gamalakhe Township, just outside Margate.

Fred and the Margate Sands team spent the morning at Super Kids Day Care School which assists working parents with caring for their children, aged 2 – 5 years old, throughout the work week, and is funded solely by a number of business people in and around the region of Margate.

The team set up a birthday bash for Fred and the 54 children of Super Kids, complete with singing, dancing, cake and a colouring-in competition. The competition generated much excitement, with the winner having had their photograph and picture proudly published in the local newspaper, while the other children’s pictures were all laminated and handed back to them to display in their school.

As part of the Mandela Day initiative and their 60 minutes of giving back to the community, Margate Sands also donated a bath and hand towel, Fred First colouring-in book and crayons to each child.

The day was an absolute highlight in the life of each and every child at the day care centre, as well as the team members from Margate Sands. The majority of these children have never experienced or had the opportunity to celebrate a birthday, and First Group and the Margate Sands team were privileged to be able to offer this experience to these children.
