First Resorts Cleans Up During Marine Week

On Friday, 16 October 2015, the management team at The Palace Resort and Spa teamed up with the eThekwini Municipality in a beach clean-up initiative in celebration of National Marine Week. The Resort Manager, Goodman Ncobeni, and his team joined municipal employees from the Durban area and spent the morning picking up litter on Virginia Beach.


The Palace Resort and Spa is managed by First Resorts, one of South Africa’s largest Resort Management companies. As a token of their appreciation and support, First Resorts provided 200 T-shirts for the participants as well as take-away meals.

Resort Manager, Goodman Ncobeni, had this to say about the day:

“It was an amazing experience and a great eye-opener to my staff and all the people that we worked with. It was great to interact with individuals who can relate to the necessity of taking care of our environment. From this experience I can see that we are going to continue looking after our city; it is the beginning of new things.”

The clean-up was followed by a formal address and various presentations at the Blue Lagoon Green Hub.Marine Week is celebrated annually and is aimed at creating awareness about marine life and the coastal environment. It is also an opportunity to educate the youth and community about the importance of cleanliness on the coastline and the impact pollution has on our environment and economy.
