St. Lucia – a North Coast Gem

What St. Lucia lacks in size is made up for in natural beauty, charm and warmth. This area of Northern KwaZulu-Natal is somewhat well-known as a tourist destination, and, if you haven’t visited this part of South Africa, you may envisage throngs of tourist groups, over-crowded restaurants and long queues. But the vibe here is quite the opposite, even during peak summer season.

St. Lucia has a quaint seaside village feel, where the locals are friendly and helpful. You may even bag an invite to a braai and a tale or two of how a hippo waddled up from the estuary to be found grazing on their lawn! (Yes, this really happens, but seldom during the day).

This part of the KwaZulu-Natal coast is an absolute treat for all types of nature and outdoor enthusiasts – from the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a national heritage site, to hippo and crocodile cruises along the St. Lucia estuary, whale and dolphin watching boat tours, the untouched local beaches as well as those of Cape Vidal – excellent for fishing.

Lake View Cabanas is a peaceful oasis found within the centre of St. Lucia town, offering comfortable and spacious apartments with one to three bedrooms, an onsite pool and communal braai area, and the not-to-be-missed onsite Jacuzzi and private sauna facilities. For ‘off the charts’ delicious Italian dishes, dine in at Alfredo’s.
