From 15 – 25 May the team at Hole in the Wall played host to the contestants and crew of the well-known South African cooking show, Ultimate Braai Master. The very capable team at the resort was comprised of Lynn, Clyde and Marcel who made their best effort to ensure the contestants and crew felt at home throughout their stay.
On Friday 15th the forwarding team from the Ultimate Braai Master arrived at Hole in the Wall where preparations for the arrival of the crew and the contestants began. Appropriate sleeping arrangements were made for the teams, while Sunday saw the crew and organisers of the show enjoy a seafood banquet created by Marcel, which went down a real treat.
After a weekend of preparation the intrepid group of contestants and crew arrived on Monday 18th after a nine kilometre trek from Coffee Bay. Exhausted and relieved to have made it to their destination, the contestants plunged themselves into the cool waters of the bay. The team at Hole in the Wall prepared for their first challenge taking place that day.
That afternoon contestants participated in their first challenge at Hole in the Wall. After the elimination contestants and crew made their way over to the backpacker accommodation at the resort where they feasted on yet another delicious meal presented by Marcel. Despite the load shedding that evening, the crew’s festivities were not dampened as they continued to celebrate a team member’s birthday.
Wednesday the 20th was all about giving back to the local community. All contestants, crew and selected team members at Hole in the Wall made their way to a local school at Dedaleni to present a travel voucher to the value of R10 000, donated by SA Tourism, as well as a soccer ball for the children’s playground. The day was a truly humbling experience for all involved.
The next Braai Master challenge took place that evening, where the winners were lucky enough to take immunity into the next round.
Contestants enjoyed a day at the beach at Mapuzi on Thursday the 21st where everyone participated in a bit of braai work as well as a fun photo shoot. The following challenge took place on the afternoon of Friday the 22nd and another two contenders were eliminated.
On the morning of Saturday the 23rd team leaders were surprised with a challenge that took place immediately after breakfast. This challenging task had teams sweating, but in the end the winning pair were awarded with immunity to take into the next challenge at Rocky Bay.
That evening, contestants indulged on a seafood spread– a reward for their achievements thus far in the competition. They were then treated to a basic skills lesson on different cuts of meat, useful for discerning the best cooking method to use in their upcoming challenges.
Contestants and crew alike enjoyed a well-deserved beach day off on Sunday, and on Monday 25th the time had come for contestants and crew to bid farewell to Hole in the Wall after breakfast was served.
Hosting the contestants and crew of The Ultimate Braai Master series was an excellent experience for us all here at Hole in the Wall. We thank them for many memorable moments and for choosing our resort as a base while travelling through the Transkei area. We sincerely hope they enjoyed their stay as much as we enjoyed hosting them all!
