The FDSA youth centre recently held their Santa Shoebox Christmas party for over 350 underprivileged children on Tuesday, the 2nd of December at the Smit Park in Velddrif. The Port Owen Marina Staff members as well as the Resort Manager, Niel Havenga volunteered to assist at the Christmas party.

“It was really awesome to be a part of FDSA’S Christmas Party the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves they were exhausted by the end of the day which shows they had great fun! Thank you to my staff and all the sponsors that contributed towards the day. FDSA had the best Christmas party thanks to you,” says Resort Manager, Niel Havenga.

The children had a great fun competing in various games such as soccer, cricket and tug of war. A jumping castle and slippery slide was also available for the children to enjoy throughout the day.  Each child received a present which was made up especially for them by an anonymous donor from the Santa Shoebox Project. Blue Bay Mussels in Velddriff made a cash donation and the Super Spar donated hamburgers, juice and ice-cream which the Resort Manager, Niel Havenga and his staff prepared and distributed to the children and helpers.

The FDSA Velddriff is a youth centre that is situated in Noordhoek and currently cares for 350 children. The organisation is entirely dependent on donations and sponsors that they receive. The organisation also has a kitchen that currently supplies daily meals to the children as well as the frail and elderly. The centre has become a safe haven for children to spend time together with adults who tend to their social needs that are not necessarily being addressed at home.
