We would like to congratulate the following staff members of Qwantani: Anna and Isaac Mokoena, April Tshabalala, Oupa Sibeko, Zama Mchunu and Alliot Mofokeng who recently participated in the 15km Harrismith Mountain Race. This is one of the oldest races in South Africa since 1922 and it takes place up the Platberg in Harrismith. This is Isaac Mokoena’s 11th time competing in this race. This is a huge accomplishment for these staff members as some of them were running the race for the first time.
Not only does the resort have runners, but also hikers who are going to embark on a 230km hike in March next year from Qwa Qwa (Sentinel Car Park) to the Bushman’s Nek Border Post. This route has some of the highest peaks in South Africa. Resort Manager, Gerhard van den Heever, Johan van den Heever, Dave Wright, Oupa Sibeko, Zamo Mchunu, Lefuma Mofokeng and Natasha van den Heever are the staff members who will be embarking on this scenic journey. During the hike the staff will be sending daily updates to let us know how the hike is going as well as some photographs that we will share on the resorts Facebook page.
“From the beginning of the year we are going to be looking for sponsors to help us raise some funds as well as hiking material that will assist us on our journey. Reason being that some of the staff that are coming with us do not have proper hiking boots or a sleeping bag so it would be really awesome if we could get a sponsor. Otherwise we have started training and we are really excited for the adventure with our team says,” Natasha van den Heever Quality Controller of Qwantani.
