Resorts Shine at Annual Awards

One of the largest hospitality events was held at the ICC in Durban this February. With over 900 guests in attendance, First Resorts held its 10th Annual Awards, to celebrate their outstanding achievements of their employees and resorts. The award categories included Resort of the Year, Resort Manager of the year and Superior Service in Hospitality to name a few.

 Johann Jordaan, Managing Director of First Resorts had this to say during his speech: “2011 Was a challenging year, including low occupancies, industrial action and closure of Timeshare schemes. These Timeshare scheme closures were a direct result of guests not wanting to visit or return to a particular resort. First Resorts did not see this as a failure; we saw this as an opportunity. Our attitude changed and we started providing guests with the hospitality they expected. This effort ensured the retention of current guests and contributed to the conclusion of new contracts with resorts such as Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Reserve, Riviera Suites, Royal Palm and Magalies Park”.

 One of the most prestigious awards of the evening, Resort of the Year 2011, was presented to Qwantani Berg and Bush Resort. “Qwantani has become one of the top resorts in our portfolio, partly due to the leadership of Resort Manager Coffee James and Regional Manager Tim Spencer. We are guided by the guests comments and various other factors when choosing the resort of the year. It was an extremely close decision this year, as many of our properties have developed a strong entertainment ethic and definitely put our guests first,” said Johann Jordaan, Managing Director of First Resorts.

 South Coast favourite, La Côte d’Azur, was honoured with the award for Superior Service in Hospitality, a category close to the heart of all First Resorts management. Superior Service in Housekeeping went to Club Hacienda, and Resort Manger of the Year was awarded to Marie Strydom of Club Hacienda.

 Other awards presented during the evening included:

Superior Teamwork – La Vita (Oceanic);

Most Improved Resort Manager – Lesley du Toit of Durban Sands;

Superior Resort Small to Medium – Perna Perna Mossel Bay, and

Superior Resort Large – Qwantani Berg and Bush Resort.
